confidence for salsa?

Hi all I just started to learn salsa dance, and really enjoying it. I am fine in the cla** room, but we are given a bit of time to pratice with the more experinced dancers, and I go realy shy, I even refused a dance to this lovely guy, and I felt so rude but explianed I wasnt very good at dancing.
My hands get all clammy and I lose my footing, help please!!!! Any tips on how I should get myself back out there and ask the nice lad whoa sked me to dance the return favour? or do the girls not do this?

I’m trying it again after 6 months and this is my 2 week in cla** I understand it but its not showing in dancing I got the basic steps but the rest of the movements are slow and I said to myself I’m not going to quit this time.
